What Are Dentures?
Dentures are prosthetics used to replace missing teeth. Many people are familiar with them, but they may be surprised to learn just how useful modern sets are. The prosthetic rests over your gums, allowing you to chew, speak, and smile with ease and comfort. With custom-made dentures, your replacement teeth will form a seamless and natural-looking part of your smile.
Some of the main benefits of dentures include:
- Restored ability to smile
- Can chew and eat with ease
- Help with talking
- Confidence in your appearance
- Durable materials that last for years
- Easy to clean and maintain
- Natural-look
Types of Dentures
- Partial Dentures: These cover a section of missing teeth. The number of teeth in the partial denture will depend on how many you need to replace. Maybe only 3 or more than 10. It depends on your needs.
- Full (Complete) Dentures: When most people picture dentures, they imagine this type. A complete denture set will replace all the teeth on the top or bottom jaw. Patients who have lost all their teeth may need two sets of complete dentures.
- Implant-Supported Dentures: Instead of resting directly on the gums, these will be affixed to surgically placed dental implants. They come with added stability while maintaining the convenience of traditional options.
How Do I Get Dentures?
- Consultation: Sign up to meet with our dentist and he can go over your situation. Based on your needs, goals, and budget, we can put together your ideal type of treatment.
- Preparation: Some patients may need to have a tooth (or teeth) removed before moving forward. It depends on the type of dentures you want and how healthy your remaining teeth are. If you plan to have implant-supported dentures, we will need to place the implants. Once they heal, you can continue on with the remaining process.
- Impressions: Once your gums are ready, we will take impressions to send to the lab. These molds of your jaw structure allow our technicians to create dentures that fit exceptionally well.
- Fitting: Your dentures arrive, and you can come in to test them out. We will ensure they fit well and make minor adjustments if needed.

FAQs
Are dentures painful?
Dentures should NOT be painful in day-to-day use. When patients first receive their dentures, wearing them can prove varyingly uncomfortable. However, this usually goes away after an initial adjustment period. Keep your dentures clean and use them properly, and you should have a comfortable experience. We also provide tips for how to adjust to your new teeth for the first few weeks.
Will dentures look natural?
Your set of custom-made dentures should look like a natural part of your smile. However, not all dentures are created equal. Be sure that you choose a reliable dentist for your set, and look at photos of their previous patients. If you can easily tell they have false teeth, then you may want to look elsewhere.
How long do they last?
Denture materials continue to improve, meaning they last for years before needing replacement. Most patients can expect about 5 to 10 years out of each set of dentures. Keeping your dentures clean will play a large role in how long they last. Additionally, watch out for accidental damage or injury by avoiding risky scenarios.
Are there other teeth replacement options?
Tooth loss can happen in many different ways and for different reasons. So dentures are not the only way to restore a smile. We also offer dental implants and dental bridges as two alternative options. The right solution for you will depend on factors like oral health, budget, and your preferred time frame.
Implants: Best for replacing a single tooth at a time. Can take longer, but also is the most durable option.
Bridges: replace multiple teeth with natural-looking results. Not as durable as implants.
Are dentures easy to clean?
Keeping your dentures clean can take some discipline, but cleaning them is not hard. You will need to take daily care of them, but it should take about the same amount of time as cleaning your natural teeth. Leaving dentures uncleaned can lead to unpleasant effects, such as:
- Increased wear on the device
- Bacterial buildup which poses a health risk
- Unpleasant odor
- Visually degraded

Dr. Changela is an excellent dentist. He explained very detail before any treatments. I have a lot of dental work done. He will not do unnecessary work just to get pay. The office is very clean, the wait time is very minimal. My husband and I have seen Dr. Changela for over 4 years, and we are very happy with him.
